(Why is there an increase in the rate per 100,000 every year? That is very disturbing. The rate would qualify as an epidemic. The rate should almost be constant.)

You have accounted for 25% of the increase in suicide rates if I read the article correctly. Were you given reliable information from the CDC? New Orleans has the highest death, cancer, infant mortality, suicide, etc. rates in the nation. Get copies of the Harvard Medical School study on Hurricane Katrina. There is a website. I believe that the CDC gave you correct gross numbers but altered where the suicides occurred. Think about this for a minute. Eight states were decimated by the economy. Las Vegas should have a very high suicide rate. Other states did not have the economic problems that say Florida had. There should be substantial differences between the states if you were given honest data. I think you will find the highest suicide rates in a box 300 miles wide and 600 miles long starting in New Orleans and going straight north.
Hurricane Katrina hit on August 29th, 2005. You see a departure on you graph starting in 2006.

Why not environmental concerns such as pollution? Our government relaxed EPA standards. What about chemical warfare contaminates? New Orleans is the chemical and chemical warfare capital of the world.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Police sprayed Mace on several people in a crowd that had gathered to sign up for a list to get subsidized housing at a northwest Columbus apartment complex. IMF Chief Christine Lagarde Warns U.S. of Worldwide Effects of Fiscal Cliff
International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde has warned the US it has the potential to be its “own worst enemy” over the fragile economic recovery and that failure to reach a comprehensive settlement over the fiscal cliff could see growth plummet to zero.
In forthright comments over the impending fiscal cliff, the IMF managing director said that “if the US economy was to suffer the downside risk of not reaching a comprehensive deal, then growth would be zero”. The markets would react quickly, “and the stock market would take a hit,” she said.
All the current signs of optimism over the economy that she identified – including falling unemployment, the housing sector bottoming out and reduced household debt – would be negated.
Speaking on CNN's State of the Nation, Lagarde predicted that the diverse landscape of the US economy "could be significantly improved or worsened by the fiscal cliff, fiscal deficit and the debt of the country that are three topics that can be addressed now in a comprehensive fashion." She added: "The real threat is here, with us, and that can be addressed."

“Like Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, Django Unchained creates a world of hostility and violence ordered along racial lines. It is propaganda for a race war,” we wrote.

And we thought last month’s delayed foodstamp data was bad. The just reported foodstamp number for September was a doozy, with 607,544 new Americans becoming eligible for foodstamps, as a record 47.7 million Americans are now living in poverty at least according to the USDA. The monthly increase was the highest since May 2011, and with August’s 421K new impoverished America, over 1 million Americans made the EBT card their new best friend. It is unclear just which atmospheric phenomenon will get the blame for this unprecedented surge in poverty, which comes at a time when the pre-election economic data euphoria was adamant that the US economy was on an escape velocity to utopia. Instead what we do know is that in August and September, over three times as many foodstamp recipients were add to the economy as jobs (324,000). We also know that with the imminent impact of Sandy, which will send foodstamp recipients soaring, it is now looking quite possible that the US may end 2012 with just over a mindboggling 50 million Americans living in absolute poverty and collecting the $134.29 average monthly benefit per person, instead of working. Welcome to the recovery indeed.

A Chinese group agreed to buy 80.1 percent of American International Group Inc. (AIG)’s plane-leasing unit for $4.23 billion in the nation’s largest acquisition of a U.S. company.
The International Lease Finance Corp. acquirers, led by New China Trust Co. Chairman Weng Xianding, have an option to buy another 9.9 percent, New York-based AIG said today in a statement. The transaction, which values ILFC at $5.3 billion, passes China Investment Corp.’s $3 billion purchase of a stake in Blackstone Group LP (BX) in 2007 as the biggest Chinese-U.S. deal.
