IS THIS REAL REASON FOR CIA CHIEF’S RESIGNATION? Alleged gun running to jihadists could dwarf ‘Fast and Furious’ scandal

JERUSALEM — The speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of the CIA chief, General David Petraeus, is focusing in large part on his role in an alleged cover up of the attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi this past September.
Perhaps being overlooked is the CIA’s possible role in purportedly using the Benghazi mission to coordinate U.S. aid to opposition insurgent groups acting in Syria amid information those same insurgents consist in significant part of jihadists, including groups openly acting under the al-Qaida umbrella.
One week before he was slated to testify before Congress on the Benghazi debacle, Petraeus  on Friday night announced his resignation citing an extramarital affair.
Rep. Peter King, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman, charged in an interview with CNN that Petraeus is “at the center of this, and there are answers that only he has.”  King was referring to the Benghazi attacks.
Asked if he will still call for Petraeus testify despite his resignation, Rep. King replied, “Absolutely, to me, he’s an absolutely necessary witness.”
Patraeus resigned at a time the U.S. intelligence community is facing criticism over both its response to the assault in Benghazi and whether it had early warnings of al-Qaida plans to attack the U.S. mission in that country.

Petraeus’ Resignation Will Stop Him From Testifying About Benghazi

Business Insider
Nov 10, 2012
Former CIA Director David Petraeus’ resignation today, following his confession of an extramarital affair, seemed to come out of nowhere, and has raised a plethora of questions that will need to be answered in the coming days.
It’s worth asking: was this in any way connected to the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi?
Ben Shapiro at Breitbart seems to think so, calling the scandal the “latest in a string of groundshaking events demonstrating that the Obama administration hid information vital to the American people.” And Rupert Murdoch seems to agree:
Petraeus resignation. Timing, everything suspicious. There has to be more to this story.
Petraeus was scheduled to testify before the House and Senate Intelligence committees on Thursday regarding the events surrounding September 11, as Congress gears up for a week of hearings related to the attack.

Julian Assange says Victorious Barack Obama ‘Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’

AFP
November 8, 2012
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on Wednesday described re-elected US President Barack Obama as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” and said he expected his government to continue attacking the anti-secrecy website.
Speaking to AFP by telephone from Ecuador’s London embassy, where he sought asylum in June in a bid to avoid extradition to Sweden over sex crime allegations, Assange said Obama’s victory was no cause for celebration.
“Obama seems to be a nice man, and that is precisely the problem,” the 41-year-old Australian said, after the president defeated Republican Mitt Romney on Tuesday night to sweep back into the White House.
“It’s better to have a sheep in wolf’s clothing than a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

BLAZE ANALYSIS: THE CATHOLIC VOTE WENT TO OBAMA OVER ROMNEY DESPITE CONTRACEPTION & RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DEBATES

A solid chunk of 2012, at least in the theological and political realms, was spent talking about the “War on Religion,” which subsequently — following a spat between radio host Rush Limbaugh and Sandra Fluke — evolved into the “War on Women.” At the center of the contention in both ideological battles, of course, was the Obama administration’s controversial contraceptive mandate.
The Catholic Church, infuriated over the notion that the government would force associated organizations to violate conscience by providing employees with birth control free-of-charge, launched into a nation-side campaign against the provision. Despite a concerted effort on the part of Catholics and evangelicals, alike, to expose the issue as government intrusion on personal and institutional religious liberty, on Tuesday, President Barack Obama still won the majority of the U.S. Catholic vote.
Catholic Voters Chose Obama Over Romney Despite Religious Freedom Debate
U.S. President Barack Obama returns to the White House after winning reelection, on November 7, 2012 in Washington, DC. With 303 electoral votes, President Obama claimed a clear victory over Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. Credit: Getty Images
Exit polls from the highly-contentious 2012 presidential race show that Obama captured 50 percent of this coveted cohort, with Romney taking 48 percent of adherents. In the end, it was close — but the results likely weren’t what some conservative Catholics hoped they would be.
While some may wonder why gauging Catholics at the polls is important, as Irish Central notes, since 1972, the majority (or largest proportion) of this cohort has gone with the winning presidential candidate (at least based on popular vote); now, that pattern continues.

ISRAELI OFFICIAL: ‘WE WILL NOT CAPITULATE BEFORE OBAMA.’ Warns president’s reelection means Jewish state must ‘take care of its own’

TEL AVIV — The state of Israel will not capitulate before President Obama, whose “naive” leadership has hurt the U.S., stated Danny Danon, deputy speaker of Israel’s Knesset.
Danon, a Knesset member from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party, was reacting to the reelection of Obama.
Danon told KleinOnline: “Obama’s victory demonstrates that the state of Israel must take care of its own interests. We cannot rely on anyone but ourselves. Obama has hurt the United States by his naïve leadership in foreign policy, which prefers the Arab world over the Western world, along with Israel. The state of Israel will not capitulate before Obama. ”
Earlier this week, KleinOnline quoted a senior Palestinian Authority negotiator claiming that if Obama secures another four years in office, he will use his second term to target Netanyahu as the main party to blame for the collapse of Mideast peace talks.
The negotiator further claimed that Obama quietly pledged to the Palestinians a campaign at the United Nations to renew U.N. Security Council Resolution 242, which calls for a Palestinian state to be established in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern Jerusalem.
The PA negotiator said the White House had asked the Palestinians to slow their drive for the unilateral declaration of a state at the U.N. General Assembly.
The negotiator further said Obama had promised the PA that the establishment of a Palestinian state will be one of the main priorities for a second term.
“We were told that the negotiations for a Palestinian state will be a main goal for Obama,” said the negotiator. “Netanyahu will be declared the main person responsible for the collapse of the peace process.”

Turn Them Over: Feinstein Moves To Ban ALL Assault Rifles, High Capacity Magazines, and Pistol Grips

Mac Slavo
SHTFplan.com
Nov 8, 2012
The agenda no longer needs to be hidden from public view. With President Obama winning another term and democrats taking control of the Senate, the move to fundamentally change America from within has begun – with a vengeance.
We’re all aware of the restrictive gun laws in the State of California which require low capacity magazines for handguns, fixed magazines for “assault” rifles, and a whole lot of running around just to be granted the right to carry a concealed firearm.
Now, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who has championed gun control in her state for decades and co-wrote the original assault weapons ban enacted by the federal government in the 1990′s, wishes to bring even more stringent federal mandates to the land of the free.
What is being proposed by Feinstein is the most significant attack on the second amendment in history.
It would essentially ban thousands of firearms and require gun owners to turn them over to the Federal government.
I don’t have the minutes of the meeting (yet), but sources tell me California Senator and longtime gun-hater Dianne Feinstein’s legal staff held meetings on Friday with FTB/ATF legal staff to discuss a new “Assault Weapons Ban” Madame Feinstein would be looking to push through Congress if President Obama wins reelection.
This same “pretty good intelligence” says the items that would lead to a banwould ban pistol grips and “high-capacity” magazines, eliminate any grandfathering and ban sales of “weapons in possession”.
I don’t know about you, but if these things come to pass and I’m “in possession” I’m certainly not selling.
In fact, the lack of interest in the idea surprised the California liberal’s legal staffers. Apparently, they believe no logical person could possible disagree with them.
I began receiving the first reports of increases in gun buying by people concerned about tomorrow’s election. Dealers in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Indiana all tell me there hasn’t been a huge number of buyers expressing those concerns, but the numbers were noticeable.
Among that group -and the majority of “regular” purchasers- the core driving most of the purchasing seem to be in their mid-to-late 30s. Again, home and personal defense are the most frequently cited reasons for buying.
Source: Shooting Wire
At a Congressional budget meeting in September of this year, Feinstein alluded to her desire to reintroduce federal assault weapons ban regulations similar to those she helped cosponsor and pass in 1994 during the Presidency of Bill Clinton:
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to say, once again, in legislation, weapons of war do not belong on our streets…”
September 5, 2012
Is it any wonder that shares of stocks like Smith & Wesson and Ruger surged this morning in response to President Obama winning a second term? While the majority of stocks across the world are in the midst of a sell-off and economic conditions indicate the country is in a recession, America’s gun owners aren’t waiting to see what happens next.
Senator Feinstein is serious, and despite this most recent report appearing only as a rumor, her comments earlier this year and her actions two decades ago, should leave no question as to where this is headed.
They are coming for our guns; plain and simple.

Harry Reid on Hiking Debt Limit to $18.794T: ‘We’ll Raise It’

Editor's Note: The Obama Thug House is already talking about raising the Debt ceiling again.... I hate to say it but we are HIT LIKE A SOUP SANDWICH.....

November 8, 2012

(CNSNews.com) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on Wednesday that if the $16.394 trillion current legal limit on the federal government's debt must be raised in the next few months by another $2.4 trillion, “We’ll raise it."
That would set the debt limit at $18.794 trillion.
During a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday, CNSNews.com asked: “Senator Reid, the Treasury Department said last week that we will hit the debt ceiling again near the end of the year. Are you prepared—will you support—"
“I think the debt ceiling will come after the first of the year,” Reid said. “But please everyone accept this: They tried it before—they, the Republicans.”
“They tried it before – ‘We’re going to shut down the government, and we’re not going to raise the debt ceiling,’” he said. “If they want to go through that again, fine."
“But we’re not going to be held subject to something that was done as a matter of fact in all previous administrations,” Reid said.
CNSNews.com then asked, “But will you support raising it by another $2.4 trillion?”
“If it has to be raised, we’ll raise it,” he said.

FOLLOWING OBAMA VICTORY, U.S. BACKS NEW U.N. ARMS TREATY TALKS

Following Obama Victory, U.S. Backs New U.N. Arms Treaty Talks
Guns (AP/ Contrib)
Just hours after President Barack Obama secured a second term in the White House, the United States supported the U.N. in its bid Wednesday to reignite talks over an international treaty regulating the $70 billion global conventional arms trade, according toReuters:
U.N. delegates and gun control activists have complained that talks collapsed in July largely because Obama feared attacks from Republican rival Mitt Romney if his administration was seen as supporting the pact, a charge Washington denies.
The month-long talks at U.N. headquarters broke off after the United States – along with Russia and other major arms producers – said it had problems with the draft treaty and asked for more time.
A U.S. official said Washington’s goals have always been the same.
“We seek a treaty that contributes to international security by fighting illicit arms trafficking and proliferation, protects the sovereign right of states to conduct legitimate arms trade, and meets the concerns that we have been articulating throughout,” the official said.
“We will not accept any treaty that infringes on the constitutional rights of our citizens to bear arms.”
According to Reuters, U.S. officials have also acknowledged — albeit in private — that the treaty would not infringe on domestic gun ownership or sales and would only affect exports. Reuters adds:
The main reason the arms trade talks are taking place at all is that the United States – the world’s biggest arms trader accounting for more than 40 percent of global conventional arms transfers – reversed U.S. policy on the issue after Obama was first elected and decided in 2009 to support a treaty.

Analysis: Post-US election peace push unlikely

Jerusalem Post
November 8, 2012

As domestic issues weight in, the Middle East peace process is not going to be a top priority for the president-elect.

Prime Minister Netanyahu and PA President AbbasPHOTO: JASON REED / REUTERS
MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE – On Barack Obama’s second day as president of the United States, he appointed George Mitchell as a special US envoy to the Middle East.

Four years later, regardless of the winner of Tuesday’s vote, there is almost no chance that the peace process will receive the same primacy at the start of the next term. Partly that’s because of the grinding stalemate between the parties, but a much larger factor is the grinding distress of the US economy.

America’s economic trouble was not only the dominant issue of the 2012 election, it pushed foreign policy out of the race almost entirely.

Mitt Romney tried to make political hay of Obama’s tense relationship with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the looming possibility that Iran would acquire nuclear weapons. But the only international issue that really intruded on the campaign in its final, and most impactful weeks, was the terror attack that killed four US diplomats, including a US ambassador, in Libya on the 11th anniversary of September 11.

Even the incident in Libya, though, didn’t open up a debate about America’s approach to the Middle East or combating terrorism, but rather served as a spring board for recriminations and charges of manipulations, misquotes, poor judgment and ultimately a cover-up.

Here's What It Looks Like When You're Entered Into A Department Of Homeland Security Data Fusion Center

Business Insider
November 5, 2012

Starting in 2003, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) set up a vast network of what it calls "local data fusion centers," 77 in total (or maybe 68, the DHS isn't even sure) — in the hopes of producing solid intelligence on potential terrorists, who would presumably operate from within the country (ie 'home-grown terrorists).
So, the DHS is using tax dollars to log the personal information of U.S. citizens in order to create a vast spreadsheat. Complex 'potential terrorist' algorithms would then scan these spreadsheets and red flag anyone who might be a potential threat.
It's easy to see why in September of this year, after a congressional investigation, Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) issued a report about these fusion centers basically saying that they're a total waste of money (somewhere between $289 million and $1.4 billion).

Some of the waste includes:
  • dozens of flat-screen TVs;
  • Sport Utility Vehicles that were then given away to other local agencies; and
  • hidden “shirt button” cameras, cell phone tracking devices, and other surveillance equipment unrelated to the actual mission of a fusion center.

Also from the report:
The subcommittee investigation found that the fusion centers often produced irrelevant, useless or inappropriate intelligence reporting to DHS, and many produced no intelligence reporting whatsoever.

A photo posted by Kade Ellis, an employee of American Civil Liberties Union, and a popular surveillance blogger, shows what it looks like when you've been entered in to one of these "fusion centers." [Photo posted above]
If you click on the link, you'll notice it leads to Microsoft. That's because Bill Gate's Company helps fund these centers, in return for their continued business.
In fact, Microsoft helped fund and set up the NYPD's massive surveillance apparatus — The 'integrated intelligence solutions for police departments and securi....'
According to Fast Company, "Microsoft has quietly become one of the world's largest providers of integrated intelligence solutions for police departments and security agencies."

Dollar Falls as Obama Win Paves Way for Monetary Easing

Bloomberg
November 7, 2012

The dollar fell against the yen on speculation Barack Obama’s re-election as president will boost chances the U.S. will maintain monetary stimulus policies that tend to weaken the greenback.
The euro erased gains as European Central Bank President Mario Draghi said the Europe’s crisis is affecting Germany. The U.S. currency was mixed versus its major peers as Obama defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney, who disagreed with current Federal Reserve policy. Obama now faces the so-called fiscal cliff, $600 billion in tax increases and spending cuts set to be implemented in 2013.

10 dire consequences of Obama’s re-election victory

Mike Adams
Natural News
Nov 7, 2012
As of this writing, it looks like Obama has a lock on the electoral college victory, although it simultaneously appears he has lost the popular vote to Romney.
What does an Obama re-election mean for the next four years in America? Now that he’s in his second and last term, of course, Obama no longer needs to restrain his actions according to popularity. He can simply unleash any desirable executive order and rule by decree, bypassing Congress as he has frequently promised to do.
This puts America in a very dangerous situation, given Obama’s well-demonstrated desire to destroy freedom and liberty in America. Remember: Obama is anti health freedom, anti food freedom, anti GMO labeling, anti medical freedom and anti farm freedom. He’s the one who issued an executive order claiming government ownership over all farms and farm equipment, in case you forgot that little fact.
He’s also the guy who just recently issued an executive order merging Homeland Security with local corporate entities to grant the executive branch of government a power monopoly over the nation, bypassing the courts and Congress. You probably haven’t even heard about that one, because he secretly signed it during Hurricane Sandy.
Given Obama’s atrocious track record on freedom during his first four years in the White House, here are my top 10 predictions for the next four (if America even lasts that long before ripping itself apart):
#1) Huge expansion of TSA and the surveillance state
Watch for TSA to expand its occupation of America by setting up checkpoints on roadways, sporting events, malls and “surprise” locations. Expect to see TSA agents become even more belligerent and lawless as they ramp up their sexual molestation of innocent victims.
#2) Expansion of secret arrests of American citizens
Obama secretly signed the NDAA, legalizing the secret arrests of U.S. citizens while denying them due process. Obama also authorized secret “kill lists” that claim to authorize the U.S. government to assassinate targeted individuals.
With his re-election in place, expect Obama to start issuing a mass of “kill orders” that will even start targeting political opponents.
#3) Acceleration of national debt blowout and endless fiat currency creation
Under Obama, the national debt experienced a massive blowout where Obama added trillions of dollars to the existing debt: www.USdebtclock.org
Right now, Obama is overseeing a trillion dollars a year in additional debt — an amount that simply cannot be sustained without running smack into a financial catastrophe. It now appears that financial collapse it going to occur under Obama, not Romney.
#4) Rapid expansion of GMOs and USDA collusion
Monsanto and the biotech corporations have thrived under the Obama administration thanks to USDA collusion and scientific fraud.
Over the next four years, expect GMOs to dominate the U.S. food supply while the Obama White House rejects any effort to try to label GMOs on a national basis.
#5) Increasingly dictatorial government health care
Obamacare will grow like a cancer, pushing Americans into mandatory vaccinations that inject children with mercury, formaldehyde, MSG and aluminum.
Look for the Obama administration to wage even more wars against raw milk freedom, farm freedom and food freedom, all while requiring yet more foods to be pasteurized or fumigated under the guise of “food safety.”
#6) Immediate surge in sales of guns and ammo
Obama has promised to try to destroy the Second Amendment and deny Americans the liberty to own firearms. With his re-election, expect to see a massive surge in gun sales as more people attempt to stock up in anticipation of gun bans (or government gun confiscation).
#7) Accelerated erosion of the Bill of Rights and civil liberties
Under Obama, civil rights, human rights and the Bill of Rights will be rapidly eroded. This goes hand in hand with the cancerous growth of government. As government expands its power and confiscates more economic resources, it simultaneously destroys individual liberties and due process.
This isn’t to say that Romney would have been any better, of course. Both candidates were philosophically invested in the rapid expansion of Big Government.
#8) Continued destruction and looting of the U.S. economy
Under Obama, the financial looting of the U.S. economy by the global bankster elite will continue. The same would have been true with Romney, by the way.
Under Obama, America’s unemployment rate will continue to head skyward, entitlements will be expanded, and the USA will be plunged into a tyrannical welfare state dominated by mindless zombies who have no cognitive grasp of reality.
#9) A “giant sucking sound” of employers leaving America
Ross Perot was right! That “giant sucking sound” is the sound of employers leaving America in droves, hiring offshore workers instead of creating jobs in the USA. And why? Because employers can’t afford to pay Obamacare mandates and still stay competitive in the global marketplace.
#10) Stepped-up attacks on veterans and preppers
Returning U.S. veterans will continue to be vilified by the Obama administration, to the point where even more veterans will be arrested as “terrorists” for engaging in fundamental preparedness strategies such as storing food, water, medicine and ammo.
Watch for the liberal media to join the White House in painting veterans as “dangerous” individuals needing psychiatric medications. Never mind the fact that the media owes preppers a huge apologyin the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

GOP Looking Bad - Time for a Third Party

Ryan W. McMaken
Lew Rockwell Blog
Nov 7, 2012
Romney lost today to a guy who is overseeing a horrible economy, prosecuting unpopular wars, and who can barely string 5 words together without a teleprompter. This was the best the Republican Party can do. Not only are the Republicans evil, they’re evil and contemptible losers, which is far worse.

The biggest losers tonight are of course people who value peace and freedom, but we would have also lost if Romney won. The GOP is right up there in the loser category, however. The GOP lost seats in the Senate, and did little to improve its position in the House. It has served up two ridiculously bad nominees in a row, claiming “electability” and then going down in flames.
Rand Paul certainly came out of this looking very bad as well. He fell in line behind the party masters, banking on some advantage to be gained through an endorsement of Romney. He ended up just looking politically un-savvy and unprincipled. There is little to be gained either, from playing ball with a Party that as inept as the GOP at this point.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that the GOP may actually show sign of disintegration in the next several years. The GOP has ceased to present any sort of actual alternative, and worse yet, it can’t run a winning candidate. Once that happens, the coalition that makes up your political party will begin to fall apart.
The Ron Paul movement is a big winner here. The GOP told the libertarians in the party to get lost, and the GOP paid for it. Interestingly, both Iowa and Nevada, where Ron Paul supporters gained control of the state party, both went to Obama after the Romney campaign actively fought to disenfranchise Ron Paul supporters. I guess the GOP got what it wanted there.
There is exactly one movement that offers any real opposition to the status quo, and it ain’t the conservative movement, which is on life support and entering a permanent vegetative state. Ron Paul’s libertarian movement, brimming with well-educated young people is the only thing left standing. The GOP operatives who predicted a big victory tonight just look pathetic.
On foreign policy, if it proves to be true that Obama is truly reluctant to engage in the mass murder of Iranians, that may be a victory there all by itself. Time [will] tell on that one.
And finally, when the economy enters a deep recession in a couple of years (or sooner), it will be good that Obama will be in office. You all know how it would have gone otherwise: After a couple of years of Romney misrule, the media will decide that Romney was the candidate of “free markets.” Then, mired in a depression, our wise overlords will declare that “we tried that free market thing, and look what happened.”

China is building a huge eco-city where no one will need to drive

Outside Chengdu, in central China, a 78 million square foot site has been determined for an unconventional sort of construction project. It will be a city built from scratch, for 80,000 people, none of whom will need a car to get around.
The “Great City” is a plan for an ambitious urban center designed to limit its residents environmental impact by producing clean energy, reducing waste, and promoting public transportation over individual car use.
[...] It has been called the “Car-Free City,” a moniker that is not entirely accurate. The architecture firm notes that the vision is for a city where “cars will be essentially unnecessary,” but allowed.
The master plan includes many good ideas. Half the road space will be reserved for non-motorized traffic, and electric shuttles will get people where they cannot or do not want to walk. All homes will be within a two-minute walk of a public park.

NETWORKS CALL THE RACE FOR OBAMA

The mainstream media networks have called the race for President Obama, even though the Romney campaign has not conceded Ohio.
Karl Rove referenced the 2000 presidential race when the mainstream media hastily and erroneously called Florida for former Vice President Al Gore., telling Fox News, “We’ve had one instance where something was prematurely called.”
The states called for Romney include: West Virginia, Kansas, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, Missouri, Arizona, Idaho, Texas and South Carolina.Romney won the battleground state of North Carolina.
The states called for Obama are: Vermont, Rhode Island, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, New Mexico, Washington, Hawaii, California, Iowa, Oregon and Washington, D.C. Obama also won the coveted battleground states of Michigan, New Hampshire, Colorado and Pennsylvania.
According to exit polls released by the Associated Press, six out of 10 voters have listed the economy as the top issue this election. Only four in 10 believe the economy is improving, while more said the nation’s financial situation is worsening or stagnating.  Only one-quarter of voters say they are better off than four years ago.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, reacting to Obama’s lead, declared, “I just cannot believe, though, that the majority of Americans would believe that incurring more debt is good for our economy, for our children’s future, for job creators. I cannot believe that the majority of Americans would believe that it’s OK not to follow the Constitution and not have a budget. And I can’t believe that the majority of Americans would say it’s OK to rely on foreign sources of energy instead of drilling and mining our own natural resources.”

Majority of voters see America on wrong track

NBC News
November 6, 2012

As voters left polling places Tuesday, a majority told exit poll interviewers they felt the country was “seriously off on the wrong track.” But the mood of the electorate was markedly more optimistic than it was four years ago, when a record three out of four voters said the country was on the wrong track.
In preliminary results from early voters in the national NBC News exit poll, 52 percent said America was on the wrong track while 46 percent said the nation was"generally going in the right direction."
Preliminary results from exit polls also showed that most voters, 53 percent, thought the federal government is doing too much, a sharp contrast with four years ago, when the country was in the midst of a financial and economic crisis. At that time only 43 percent of voters said the government was doing too much and a majority, 51 percent, thought the government ought to do more to try to solve the nation’s problems.

Johnson, Stein Warn of Growing Police State

The New American
November 6, 2012

Johnson, Stein Warn of Growing Police State
Presidential candidates Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party and Jill Stein of the Green Party agreed during Monday night's alternative candidates debate that liberty in America is endangered by a growing police state. They were united in their opposition to the Patriot Act and the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act. They agreed that military interventions have resulted in more, rather than fewer, enemies of the United States in the Middle East. They agreed that the federal war on drugs has been a disaster and that marijuana should be legalized. They even agreed on mandated labeling of genetically modified foods. But they differed sharply on enough issues to prevent an excess of harmony from ruining a good debate.
"I just think that's absolute baloney," Johnson said after Stein reiterated a list of things she believes government should be doing in a 'Green New Deal" to "jump start the green economy." They include employing millions of people in weatherization and conservation programs, providing subsidies for green startup companies, providing universal health care through "Medicare for all," improving public transportation, forgiveness of student loans and free higher education for everyone.
"Between a healthy transportation system and a healthy food system and pollution prevention, we can create the jobs we need, we can put a halt to climate change, and we don't need to go down that desperation road of austerity," Stein said.
"In our own lives, we can't spend more money that we take in," Johnson protested. The former Republican governor warned repeatedly that the continued borrowing of 43 cents out of every dollar the government spends will lead to a monetary collapse. He proposes to balance the budget in one year, cutting federal spending by a whopping $1.4 trillion.
"Nothing is free," Johnson said. "There isn't free health care, there isn't free education, it comes at a cost. That cost is here and now and I think Americans recognize that we can't bury our heads in the sand, that there needs to be mutual sacrifice on the part of all of us or we're going to find ourselves with a collapsed government."

Obama: I Have A Concession Speech Ready

CHICAGO (AP) — Expressing confidence but leaving nothing to chance, including having a concession speech ready, President Barack Obama indulged his superstitions by engaging in a traditional Election Day basketball game with friends as the race that will determine his political future was finally in the hands of voters.
Obama played on the hard court — and won — after he gave a final exhortation to his volunteers to get out the vote, voiced optimism about his chances and congratulated rival Mitt Romney on a “spirited campaign.”
“I expect that we’ll have a good night,” he said.
Obama gave the campaign one last push Tuesday morning by visiting a campaign office near his South Side Chicago home.

UN Election Observers Amazed Americans Vote Without Showing I.D.

For the head of Libya's national election commission, the method by which Americans vote is startling in that it depends so much on trust and the good faith of election officials and voters alike.

"It's an incredible system," said Nuri K. Elabbar, who traveled to the United States along with election officials from more than 60 countries to observe today's presidential elections as part of a program run by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). Your humble Cable guy visited polling places with some of the international officials this morning. Most of them agreed that in their countries, such an open voting system simply would not work.
"It's very difficult to transfer this system as it is to any other country. This system is built according to trust and this trust needs a lot of procedures and a lot of education for other countries to adopt it," Elabbar said.
The most often noted difference between American elections among the visitors was that in most U.S. states, voters need no identification. Voters can also vote by mail, sometimes online, and there's often no way to know if one person has voted several times under different names, unlike in some Arab countries, where voters ink their fingers when casting their ballots.
The international visitors also noted that there's no police at U.S. polling stations. In foreign countries, police at polling places are viewed as signs of security; in the United States they are sometimes seen as intimidating.
