This Colorado sheriff is willing to go to jail rather than enforce a proposed gun law

CNN News

Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams

Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams disagrees so much with a gun bill making its way through the Colorado legislature that he's willing to go to jail rather than enforce it.
"It's a matter of doing what's right," he said.
He's not the only one who feels so strongly.
The controversial "red flag" bill aims to seize guns temporarily from people who are deemed to be a threat to themselves or others.
Colorado's state Senate passed the bill Thursday by a single vote, without any Republican support, and the bill is expected to pass the House, possibly this week. With Democratic majorities in both chambers, state Republicans have too few votes to stand in the way.
But more than half of Colorado's 64 counties officially oppose the bill. Many have even declared themselves Second Amendment "sanctuary" counties in protest.
Failure to enforce a court order to seize a person's guns could mean sheriffs being found in contempt. A judge could fine them indefinitely, or even send them to jail to force them to comply.
Reams says it's a sacrifice he'd be forced to make.

Something Shocking Trump's DoD Nominee Just Said...

Dr.Dean Winslow

One of Trump's nominees for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs recently said something that should make every gun rights advocate cringe.

While in front of a Senate Committee recently, Dr. Dean Winslow stated that it was "insane" that a civilian can go out and buy an AR-15 rifle.

Dr. Winslow made the statement when answering a question concerning the Air Force's failure to report to NICS concerning Texas Church shooter Devin Kelly's violent past, consequently allowing him to purchase firearms.

After answering the committees questions, Dr. Winslow added of his own volition:
“I’d also like to, and I may get in trouble with other members of the committee, just say how insane it is that in the United States of America a civilian can go out and buy a fully auto, or a semi-automatic assault rifle like an AR-15, which apparently was the weapon that was used [in the Texas attack].”
And even though Devin Kelley did use an AR-15 Rifle to kill 26 church goers, we must also remember that he was stopped by a civilian also legally owned an AR-15, and who had a conceal carry permit to do so.

It is important to understand that criminals will always seek to find guns regardless of any laws on the books which would prohibit them from possessing them. This is why we must have the ability to own firearms (including AR - 15s ) so that even the odds against those who would seek to do us harm.

It is a scary thought that we have a nominee going for such a powerful position in government, which thinks it is "insane" for Americans to exercise their right to "keep and bear arms", including AR-15 rifles.

Also remember the old saying... "If you give an inch, they'll take a mile".

Stand firm on your unalienable God given right of self protection and the right to keep and bear arms which "shall not be infringed".

Outrage in Orlando: Florida’s Gun Free Zone Laws Allow Murder of 49, Wounding of Another 53
Missing in all the media frenzy over the horrific murder of 49 patrons at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, early Sunday morning was any mention of this, from Florida’s concealed weapons statute, Title XLVI, Chapter 790, Section (12)(a):
A license issued under this section does not authorize any person to openly carry a handgun or carry a concealed weapon or firearm into any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises.
In other words, politicians who voted to guarantee that those patrons would have little opportunity to defend themselves against Omar Mateen’s attack on Sunday are as culpable in that outrage as the radicalized Muslim.
Instead the media busied itself with all manner of irrelevant or agenda-driven commentary into Mateen’s background: how he obtained his weaponry, why the FBI or its NICS checklist didn't pick him up earlier, the type of weaponry (was it an “assault” weapon or a semi-automatic rifle), how the survivors managed to escape, the supposed need for stronger gun laws, etc.

Missouri Lawmakers Pass Sweeping Gun Rights Expansion

NY Times
May 14, 2016

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri lawmakers have passed a sweeping expansion of gun rights in the state, one that would allow people to carry concealed guns without requiring permits and widen their right to stand and fight against perceived threats.
The legislation, which now goes to Gov. Jay Nixon for his signature, was among the most prominent measures passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature on the final day of its annual session on Friday. Mr. Nixon, a Democrat, did not have an immediate comment on the bill.
Under the measure, most people would be able to carry concealed guns, even if they have not completed the training currently required to obtain a permit.
The legislation would also expand the state’s “castle doctrine” by allowing invited guests, such as babysitters, to use deadly force against intruders. It would also create a “stand your ground” right, meaning people would not have to retreat from danger in any place they are legally entitled to be present.
While many Democrats denounced it, Republican supporters of the bill described the measures as reasonable approaches to personal safety.
“There won’t be blood in the streets,” said State Representative Joe Don McGaugh, a Republican. “But what there will be is more people protected by the right to bear an arm legally.”
Ten other states already have what supporters describe as “constitutional carry” laws allowing concealed guns without permits, including ones enacted this year in Idaho, Mississippi and West Virginia, according to the National Rifle Association.
The N.R.A. says 30 states have laws or court precedents stating people have no duty to retreat from a threat anywhere they are lawfully present. But Missouri’s measure would make it the first new stand your ground state since 2011, according to both the N.R.A. and Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy group.

'They are coming to kill us': Last-standing four militia men in Oregon standoff say they are willing to die if the FBI won't give in to their demands

Daily Mail
January 28, 2016

Four militiamen are still refusing to leave the Malheur National Wildlife Reserve where they have been locked in a 27-day stand-off with police, which has left one dead; 11 arrested and has brought widespread condemnation from the local community.
In a live video broadcast from the Oregon ranch this week, one of the last-standing members, said he believes the FBI is 'going to kill them', but refused to leave unless the authorities would meet their demands.
Another militiaman added he is 'willing' to die in a final bloody siege with the authorities if negotiations fail. Their comments come after the last leader of the occupation voluntarily handed himself in at a police checkpoint.
However, the group's number is continuing to dwindle rapidly. The five remaining members quickly dropped to four on Thursday morning.

A video posted Thursday to the YouTube channel DefendYourBase, which the group has been using to give live updates says the occupiers want assurances they won't arrested.
A speaker believed to be David Fry said: 'We're stuck here, four of us. They're telling us it's safe to leave, but it's not safe.'
Group co-leader Jason Patrick, 43, of Bonaire, Georgia, was arrested on Wednesday along with two other militiamen.
Eight members were already under arrest following the stand-off and fatal shooting of rancher Robert 'LaVoy' Finicum, 55, on Tuesday.
Militia leader Ammon Bundy was among those seized after the bloody traffic stop on Highway 395.
He and six others were declared a flight risk on Thursday afternoon and refused release lest they return for the group's last stand. Dozens of supporters packed the courtroom for the hearing.
Authorities claim father-of-11 Finicum reached for a gun in his waistband after fleeing in his vehicle from a police cordon and was promptly shot dead by officers.
Bundy's brother, Ryan, was also shot in the arm during the incident.
The remaining militiamen have spoken of their dismay at the death of Finicum.
In another live video rant, one militia member angrily blasted the FBI as 'murderers'.
'The media has been ordered to leave that means they're coming to kill us, they don't want them to see that. They're going to murder all of us... The American people better wake up,' he said.
Another said:  'If I die, I died for my country, I died a free man. That's how I want to die.'
And in an interview with the Plain Dealer on Wednesday, Fry said: 'I'll pass on and move on to the next life. I don't know (how it will end), but I'm willing to go that far.
'Obviously they are murdering people at this point. They've been doing it for a long time now, and you guys are watching it.'

The final four are refusing to leave unless authorities assure them they will all be free to return home.
The Oregonian reported on Thursday that the group is concerned about a warrant out for militiaman Sean Anderson's arrest and they want it dropped before they leave.
So far 11 members of the militia have been arrested.
Leader Ammon Bundy and his brother, Ryan Bundy were seized on Tuesday alongside Shawna Cox, 59, Brian Cavalier, 44, Ryan Payne, Joseph O'Shaughnessy and Peter Santilli. Jon Ritzheimer, 32, was arrested in Peoria, Arizona, after turning himself in to police
Duane Leo Ehmer of Irrigon, Oregon, Dylan Wade Anderson, 34, of Provo, Utah and Patrick, 43, were arrested on Wednesday.
The arrests follow the release of federal court documents which claim that the militiamen were equipped with night vision goggles and explosives.
